DOCKET:

  1. Angela S. v. Los Angeles Unified School District, et al., Los Angeles Superior Court #BC 275627, consolidated with BC 273570.
I represented one of two student plaintiffs in an Unruh Act civil rights case (safe schools). This case involved the harassment of two 6th grade girls by their homeroom/band teacher. The case involved taking more than 60 depositions, 3 of which were in Missouri, defense medical exams, retention and examination of numerous experts (including medical, psychological and school safety), and motions to compel production of confidential personnel files. The case was tried to a jury for nearly two months. The jury awarded $215,000.00 in general damages. The court awarded $750,000.00 in attorneys' fees and over $150,000.00 in costs.

  2. Flores v. Haven Hills, Inc., L.A.S.C. #BC 328329,
represented a battered women's shelter which was sued by a former employee. After multiple depositions, much written discovery, one mediation and two Mandatory Settlement Conferences, the case was settled on the eve of trial and placed on the court record, resulting in a savings of time, effort and resources for the non-profit client.

  3. Bryant v. Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, Case No. L.A.S.C. BC 1141898.
This was a case involving reverse sex discrimination in violation of Government Code '12940 et seq., on behalf of an African-American against Drew, the only African-American non-profit teaching and medical institution West of the Mississippi. After a two week jury trial and a successful motion for attorneys' fees, the jury returned favorable verdicts in excess of $266,000.00 and the Court awarded $82,500.00 in attorneys' fees.

  4. Miller/Benardello v. Ian Graham Insurance L.A.S.C. #EC002403/EC002402.
These consolidated cases involved sexual harassment and discrimination, in violation of Government Code '12940 et seq., brought by two female Jehovah Witnesses against their employer, an insurance agency, and its employees. In order to force the defendants to file answers to the complaint, the case necessitated filing two Writs of Mandate to the Court of Appeal and a successful Petition for Review to the California Supreme Court. After several sets of exchanged interrogatories, requests for admissions and request for production of documents and four days of depositions, the case was resolved on the eve of trial through a M.S.C. for a confidential amount.

  5. Milton Gold v. General Nutrition Corporation, Bonnie Kroll, and The Frick Company, Riverside Superior Court #73121.
This was a case involving age discrimination, in violation of Government Code '12940 et seq., and wrongful termination. The case was filed on behalf of a seventy-two (72) year old man who was fired from his job for providing a refund to a customer [less than Fifty Dollars ($50.00)] without sufficient documentation (an alleged violation of company policy). After a half dozen appearances in Palm Springs, an exchange of request for admissions, interrogatories and request for production of documents, the case settled for a confidential amount.

  6. Stone v. Ziff Communications, Automotive Information Center, and Wayne Lilley. U.S.D.C. (Central District-California) CV-94-1712HLH(EEX).
This was a case for wrongful termination against a New York General Partnership, a Delaware Corporation and an individual. The case was ultimately transferred on a venue motion to District Court in Massachusetts and settled for a confidential amount shortly thereafter.

  7. Dabboussi v. Hughes Markets, Inc. U.S.D.C. (Central District-California) (CV-90-6509PT).
This was a Title VII case involving claims for national origin discrimination brought by a Middle East national against a privately held corporation. After weeks of depositions, multiple batches of written discovery and fully briefed motions in support of and in opposition to summary judgment, the case was resolved for a confidential amount during a stipulated M.S.C. before the trial judge, the Honorable Dikran Tevrizian.

  8. Wilson v. County of Los Angeles, U.S.D.C. (Central District-California) (CV-91-4089WDK).
This was a Title VII case involving race discrimination by the Sheriff's Department against a deputy sheriff who was one of only a handful of African-American instructors at the primary training Academy. The case was successfully resolved after discovery and before trial.

  9. Eagan v. Northrop Grumman Corp., L.A.S.C. #BC 198172.
Represented, with co-counsel, an individual co-defendant in a sexual harassment action brought by an employee of the corporate defendant. Through collaboration with corporate counsel, strategic use of limited discovery, protective orders and early use of mediation, the case was resolved in a manner which sharply reduced the exposure of both my client and the corporate defendant.

  10. Mel Bernie v. Reinstein & Caulkins, L.A.S.C. #BC 208488.
Retained as an expert for the defense in a legal malpractice case to render an opinion as the standard of care exercised in the defense of an age discrimination case. Assisted defense counsel in identifying areas to address in discovery and trial. After a 30 day trial, the matter resulted in a defense verdict.
