Civil Rights

The area of law protecting those rights guaranteed by the Bill of Rights, the 13th and 14th Amendments to the Constitution, including the right to due process, equal treatment under the law of all people regarding enjoyment of life, liberty, property, and protection.

Employee rights

The body of law covering protection of individuals in the workplace. It includes all forms of discrimination, retaliation, public policy violations and, in some instances, defamation.

Litigation

The area of law that provides assistance in the preparation and presentation of a lawsuit or other resort to the courts to determine a legal question or matter; A dispute is in "litigation" ( or being "litigated") when it has become the subject of a formal court action or law suit.

Mediation

A process of non-binding intervention between parties to promote resolution of a grievance, reconciliation, settlement, or compromise outside of the court system.

Sexual Harassment

The area of law dealing specifically with discrimination consisting of unwelcome verbal or physical conduct directed at an employee because of his or her sex.

Sex Discrimination

Religious Discrimination

The area of law dealing with unfair or unequal treatment of a person or persons based upon their religion.

Americans with Disabilities

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits discrimination against qualified disabled individuals in all employment practices including job application procedures, hiring, promotion and advancement, discharge compensation, training and other terms, conditions and privileges of employment.

Workplace Investigation

An exercise in due diligence, usually triggered by statute, when a party makes a complaint that, under the law, requires management to undertake an immediate and complete investigation of the merits of the claim. It most often arises in the context of a sexual harassment claim.

One who testifies or is legally qualified to testify in a case or to give evidence before a judicial tribunal or similar inquiry
